Transportation & Supply Chain Intern

Primary Location Minneapolis-St. Paul-Bloomington, Minnesota Job ID R110068 Apply

Patterson Logistics (PLSI) is seeking one or two motivated interns to contribute to high‑impact initiatives across trade compliance, transportation analytics, and supply‑chain data quality. You’ll collaborate with transportation, compliance, fulfillment center operations, and vendor partners to improve data integrity, visibility, and process reliability for our North American network.

What you’ll do (project mix will be tailored to the intern’s skills)

  • HTS & COO data stewardship: Assist with SKUs’ HTS classification and country‑of‑origin capture; build audit‑ready documentation and update reference datasets.
  • Vendor agreement & compliance hygiene: Review standard agreements for required terms; support vendor compliance tracking and documentation clean‑up.
  • Master data updates: Improve address quality, packaging/carton data, and other logistics master data elements to reduce exceptions and fees.
  • Claims process mapping: Document the current claims workflow (parcel/LTL) with the Process Manager; recommend improvements and metrics.
  • Network/ASN analytics: Support network optimization pre‑work (data prep, mapping) and help analyze/document improvements to Advance Shipment Notice (ASN) capabilities.
  • (Optional based on interest) Transportation analytics (SIQC), customs exception triage, and claims data analysis to reduce cycle time/cost.

Responsibilities

  • Gather, cleanse, and analyze data from SAP/BI, broker files, and vendor submissions; synthesize findings into clear recommendations.
  • Create/update standard work, flowcharts, and visuals that help partners adopt changes.
  • Participate in agile working sessions with Transportation, Compliance, FC Ops, and vendor partners; capture actions and drive follow‑ups.
  • Present weekly progress and a final read‑out to leadership.

What we’re looking for

  • Working toward a bachelor’s in Supply Chain, Logistics, Industrial Engineering, Data/Analytics, or related field.
  • Foundational analytics skills: Excel/Sheets (lookups, pivots), basic SQL or Python a plus; comfort with PowerPoint.
  • Detail orientation with interest in trade compliance, data quality, or transportation operations.
  • Strong communication skills; able to translate technical data into clear business language.
  • Self‑starter who can manage tasks, ask good questions, and iterate based on feedback.

What you’ll gain

  • Hands‑on exposure to transportation, import/export compliance, and master‑data governance at an enterprise scale.
  • Experience collaborating with cross‑functional teams and external partners (carriers, brokers, vendors).
  • A portfolio of artifacts (dashboards, SOPs, playbooks) demonstrating measurable impact.

Program & manager expectations

  • Manager provides clear direction, full‑time workload (~40 hrs/week), structured feedback, and alignment on in‑person/hybrid/remote schedule; department funds payroll.

The starting pay for this role is $20 - $25 per hour.
